Steve Widrick, owner of Central Kubota, LLC, is a third-generation tractor dealer. His grandfather opened the family's first tractor business in northern New York in 1949. After his grandfather retired, his father and uncle owned and operated it for years until Steve, together with his brother and cousin, bought it in 1984. The three of them grew the business to include three separate tractor dealerships, as they worked side-by-side for 24 years.
In 2008, when the opportunity arose, the trio sold the business to a neighboring dealer with nine stores. For the next two years, Steve and his son, Justin, invested full-time into dairy farming. However, with such a small dairy operation, it was too difficult to make a good living for his family. So, began the search for a tractor dealership in warmer weather, in the south, namely Texas.
In the fall of 2011, Steve, his wife Elnora, and their two children, Justin & Jamie, took a road trip to Texas, in pursuit of a new tractor dealership and a new place to call home. After visiting Dallas, they were traveling south on Interstate 35, and spotted Central Kubota. They quickly turned around and came back; Steve sat down and asked the owner if he was interested in selling. At the time, the dealership was not for sale, but within a month the owner sparked interest and "the rest is history."
The dealership celebrated its 8th anniversary in March of 2020. Since then, there have been many great changes. The properties next door were purchased, doubling the lot size for inventory display. A new line-up of equipment came in 2017, including excavators, compact track loaders, construction skid steers, hay tools, balers, and higher horsepower tractors. Lastly, with growth comes expansion, so the company had its grand opening of its second location, in Corsicana, August of 2020
Central Kubota's motto is "We cater to all." and its mission statement is "To be a premier retailer of tractors while implementing services that offer a lasting value to our customers. Our goal is to exceed customer's expectations today and into the future." Every customer is important to us, large or small.
